About

Mechator is an "open world" metroidvania/shooter where you unlock vehicles (Jeep, Tank, Boat, Helicopter) to progress. Expect to find various powerups (weapons, passive abilities) to be tucked away as you move about. Design inspirations were Jackal and Blaster Master for the NES.

Mechator was designed to be played on the Pokitto handheld console. With a resolution of 110x88, 32kb of RAM, and a 72 MHz processor, it is necessarily a small game, but I tried to get a decent chunk of gameplay into it. It should take about 60-90 minutes to beat on a first playthrough.

Nice game! Progressing with the help of unlocking new vehicles and power-ups works very well.

This is a bunch of fun... might be a little too difficult for me, but I'm persevering. It does remind me of some of the NES titles, in a really nice way.

I acquired the Tank blueprints, killed everything in the room, but there does not appear to be a way out?

Uh oh! I'm not sure what happened there. That gate on the left is supposed to open up after destroying everything, and the boss health on the right should be at 0!

Thanks for the heads-up; I'll see if I can reproduce it.

I think perhaps because I had not triggered the cut scene before I was able to destroy things.

Oh, that's interesting. Were you able to redo it and get past? How did you get in without triggering the cutscene?

I could re-create the issue. You can destroy most of soldiers and barracks without triggering the cutscene, just by staying back. When you trigger the cutscene, the boss health displays/fills up, and if there are only a few enemies left, you can't reduce it to zero.

Unfortunately, I can't beat the stage yet. I think I need to go find some health upgrades, if there are any available.

Haha, I see! I guess that was a bit of a design oversight, then; it's intended to initiate the fight via the cutscene.

There is a soldier health upgrade near the exit of the tutorial island, but I think that's the only one. Jeep weapon upgrades can help a bit. Have you gotten the rear mounted gun and other weapon upgrades (multinade or spreader shot)?
